The Story
The Flowers in Grandma’s Garden is a heartwarming, beautifully illustrated story about emotional resilience, self-acceptance, self-worth, and the power of perspective. Have you ever had one of those days where nothing seems to go your way, leaving you feeling frustrated, sad, or angry? Today is one of those days for Bailey and her favorite stuffed bear, Buttons. Everything seems to go wrong, from a breakfast mess to a tough day at school, making Bailey feel like she just isn’t good enough.
But a visit to Grandma’s flower garden changes everything! With Grandma’s gentle wisdom and a little lesson from nature, Bailey discovers that true beauty and worth come from within. Like the flowers in the garden—each unique, yet perfect in its own way—Bailey learns that we have the power to take charge of our feelings. It doesn’t matter what happens on the outside but what we believe about ourselves on the inside.
This inspiring Bailey & Buttons story encourages emotional growth with compassion and courage, perfect for kids, parents, and educators. Keep an eye out—special clues throughout the pages add an extra layer of discovery and fun to the story’s empowering message!
Whether read aloud at bedtime or shared in a classroom, The Flowers in Grandma’s Garden is a delightful reminder that we all have the power to take charge of our feelings and shine in our own special way.

About Julie’s Inspiration
Dr. Julie McDonnell, EdD, has always believed in the power of picture books to spark imagination and inspire learning. As a former elementary teacher with 30 years in education, she cherished using stories to engage her students. Now, as a devoted grandmother to Nadia and Callan, she finds endless inspiration in their curiosity and joy, reminding her of the timeless lessons of childhood.
This passion blossomed into Bailey and Buttons, a heartwarming series created to empower, inspire, and uplift children (and adults) while fostering meaningful connections through shared reading experiences. These stories focus on self-worth, self-acceptance, and emotional resilience.
Julie lives in St. Louis, Missouri, with her husband and family. A certified life coach, she loves being a Mimi and can often be found swinging on playground swings, embracing the simple joys of life.
